Have you ever noticed that you come across repeating strings of numbers, such as 111, 555 or 777… …all over the place… Let’s say you wake up from a nap at 2:22 a.m., buy a $2.22 coffee, and then watch a movie that lasts 2 hours and 22 minutes. If you notice this pattern, it may not be a coincidence. In numerology, this constant repetition is called angelic numbers. “Angels speak to us through synchronicity, which essentially means we’re going to see something over and over again, so much so that it’s more than just a coincidence,” explains Megan Micaela Firester, a leading aura reader, psychic and spiritual guide who goes by the name Micaela Mystique. “One of those ways is through numbers.”
Angelic numbers function according to the teachings of numerology, which states that each number is associated with a specific energy or vibrational frequency that contains a value beyond mere numerical value. According to Michaela, angelic numbers are related to their frequency of appearance. They serve as a sort of “thumbs up” to keep you on the path you’ve embarked on. “Seeing a recurring number is like your angel pointing at you and making you feel seen and heard. They are trying to get your attention, and the numbers they send have their own meaning. Think of it as a little signpost telling you that you’re on the right path in life, like a road sign.”
In recent years, spirituality has become increasingly popular and, with it, the number of angels.
Novali Wilder, a certified numerologist, says angel numbers are an easy way to dive into spiritual practices. And “people realize that they are truly connected to the magic that exists around them,” says Diana Zalucchi, a spiritual counselor and intuitive mentor known as “The Advising Empress.” “The angel numbers are a gentle, loving invitation to trust your own spiritual connection.”
While repeated sequences of the same number are the most obvious and therefore the most likely to catch a person’s attention, some people may see a birth date, lucky number or other significant digits repeatedly. To help you better understand the basics of angel numbers, the following experts explain how to decipher the meaning of angel numbers. In addition, Michaela provides a checklist of the meaning of frequently repeated numbers.
Becoming aware of the angelic numbers that appear and noticing them is the first step in working with them. The second is to decipher the meaning of these numbers. While researching their meaning on the Internet can be helpful, it doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. “A Google search for numbers can give you a starting point, but it won’t tell you what they mean to you specifically,” Wilder says. “That’s intuition.”
To tap into your intuitive abilities to understand the meaning of the angel numbers, Zalucca recommends sitting still, asking yourself what specifically the numbers mean to you and listening for the answer. Wilder adds that this can be done through meditation or other mindfulness practices.
Also, the timing of the appearance of the angel’s number is not random. That’s why Wilder recommends paying attention to the context in which they appear. What happens in those moments? Were you thinking about something in particular? Did something happen before or after? By paying attention to these details, you can get clues to their meaning.
“Pay attention to what you feel in your body,” Zaluki says of the appearance of angelic figures. “It doesn’t lie.” Did your body react in a certain way?
Wilder points out that this can be difficult for some people, especially if they have been disconnected from their intuition, but persevere. It just takes a little practice. Once you’ve identified a feeling, Wilder advises cultivating that feeling more, whether it’s flow, love, trust, faith or anything else that helps bring messages to light.
Another characteristic of angel numbers is that they are not just a message, but a call to action. According to Wilder, if you use their power to improve your life, you will be able to embody and act on those nuggets of wisdom that angel numbers provide.
If it’s unclear what action to take, Zalucchi recommends simply returning to a calm state and asking what to do next. “You’d be surprised how easily the answer comes to you,” he says. “A lot of people don’t trust their own [intuitive] clues because they think it can’t be that simple.”
Also, the message doesn’t always have to be about a specific action you need to take. Zaluki says it can be about changing your perceptions or beliefs about something. “It’s up to you how you use these messages,” he says.
You can also ask the universe to take angel numbers as signs. According to New York Times best-selling author and spirituality expert Gabrielle Bernstein, you can ask for signs of affirmation or guidance for almost anything.
The author recommends proceeding as follows: state your request clearly; decide what your sign will be (in this case, a repeated sequence of angel numbers); determine when you want to receive the sign; and wait for it to appear. However, once you have determined that the angel numbers are from your sign, Wilder stresses the importance of acting on them as soon as possible. Don’t ask for five more signs as confirmation. Procrastinating, Wilder says, doesn’t help build trust in your own intuition or in your spirit guides who are trying to help you.
The number 1 is a powerful number for manifestation, so many people make a wish when they see this number repeated in a row, like 11:11 on a clock. “When you see the number 111, think of it as the universe taking a screenshot of your consciousness,” says Michaela. “Everything that happens-all your thoughts, visualizations, goals, dreams-is repeating itself. So when you see this sequence, make sure your thoughts and energy are focused on what you want: that will help bring that energy to life, according to numerology.
In this world we live in with a sometimes rigid prioritization of goals, it’s easy to get upset that you haven’t reached a certain point of progress, which can cause you to compare yourself to others. According to Michaela, when you see the number two everywhere, it can be interpreted as a reminder to the angels of the number to be present, enjoy the moment and trust that you are exactly where you need to be.
This sequence of 3s is an indication from the angels to bring more balance into your life. “They want you to look at the areas of your life that are not quite balanced and work to correct yourself,” Michaela explains. “Start meditating, start exercising and finally work on that vision board you’ve been putting off all this time.”
As you overcome challenges and seek guidance from your spiritual director or signs from the universe, noticing the number four around you can be a testament that you are being heard. “Your angels guide you, surround you and answer your prayers for protection,” says Michaela. “It may be a time of struggle, but your guardians are guiding you toward the light.”
When you start having 555 secretions, it means a change is coming. Before you start worrying, know that change is a good thing, even though it can be uncomfortable. “Change can be perceived as a negative thing, but with the right attitude and alignment with your goals, it’s actually your angel’s way of reshaping your life the way you want it,” Michaela explains. “Life will be different when you get what you want.”
Does the number 666 appear everywhere in your life? If so, the angels may be trying to get your attention. “This is a powerful message from your guardian angels to take personal responsibility for your life and ask yourself in all areas, “What do I need to do differently?” says Michaela.
The repetitive sevens are are essentially a call to the universe to relax and stop fearing for the future. “Relinquish control of what happens next,” Michaela says. Instead, embrace the present and trust that things will always work out for you.”
“The number eight signifies infinity or an endless cycle of energy,” Michaela explains. “Seeing it means you are effortlessly following the natural flow and rhythm of what your angels have prepared for you.” In other words, it’s a pat on the back and a reminder to be grateful for how far you’ve come.
If you’ve been working on something for a long time, you’re likely to see recurring 9s, which is good news. “This number means that the cycle of what you’ve been doing is coming to an end,” Michaela explains. “You’ve reached the finish line of your end goals and it’s time to start looking for new ones.”
